My flowers arrived closed. What do I do?

Don’t worry, they’re just getting ready to bloom.

Some of our flowers are delivered in bud form to help them stay fresher for longer and to ensure you enjoy their full blooming journey at home. Flowers like lilies, alstroemeria, and roses often arrive closed, but with just a little care, you’ll see them blossom beautifully over the next couple of days.

Here’s how to help them along:

  1. Unwrap carefully Gently remove your flowers from the packaging, being mindful of any bands around the stems.
  2. Give them a fresh cut Using clean scissors or a sharp knife, trim about 2cm off each stem at an angle. This helps them absorb water more easily.
  3. Pop them in water Fill a clean vase with fresh room-temperature water. If your flowers came with flower food, add it in. If not, a dash of sugar will do the trick. Place your stems in the water straight away.
  4. Find the perfect spot Keep your flowers in a cool space, away from direct sunlight, heaters, or ripening fruit.
  5. Keep an eye on them Change the water every two days and trim the stems slightly each time to keep them drinking well.

With the right care and a little patience, your blooms will open up beautifully in no time. If you ever have questions about specific flower types, feel free to reach out to us at care@bloomable.co.za. We’re here to help.
